there has been a lot of "controversy" over the harry potter books. bah.
i just don't get where people are coming from. i mean, okay, it's perfectly fine if you don't like the books. some people don't favor that particular genre. but last night i was listening to the radio (which i haven't done in a while, really...i've been favoring cd's) and there was this interview going on. they were talking to some guy about said "controversy" over harry potter. the man's argument was something like: "while many people claim that books such as Harry Potter are merely harmless fiction, j.k. rowling receives letters every day from small children hoping to attend Hogwarts. these children are devastated when they discover that no such school exists. can you call that harmless?" he went on to say that satan was using the books to mold the children of today in order to do his bidding. argh. okay. children write letters to santa asking for presents. heck, we even have a santa at every mall waiting to take pictures with the kids. children write letters to the tooth fairy when they lose teeth. most of our fiction in tv and books, at least for children, has to do with "magical" things. is that evil, too? and, as it is with santa and the tooth fairy and the easter bunny, don't the parents decide what to tell their children, and when to divulge the truth to them? for that matter, the parents also have the authority to decide whether they think their child might be too young to read a certain book or see a certain movie. okay, now i'm rambling so i'm gonna stop. but seriously...i'm not against anyone who doesn't like harry potter. it's okay. there are a lot of things i don't like either. i just think that some people's reactions are becoming rather foolish. argh.
